These aspects are useful enough to bring efficiency in routine activity in terms of the decision-making process, brainstorming as the key to finding solutions, evaluation of capacity, and scheduling of the activity. The core of the discussion focuses on the reflection of the course’s projection on personal and professional development from the point of view of the selected operational management tools and techniques. The development of personal career depends on the majority of factors that have a direct influence on the outcomes of every business process. In my opinion, every career building should start from the establishment of the effective decision-making approach that can guide towards the improvement of not only personal productivity but also business efficiency. First, every company-oriented decision comes from the operational manager regulating every process and implementation of changes (Kim and Han). Therefore, to promote appropriate decision-making free from mistakes, it is essential to make a break-even analysis of the existing product or service. Decision-making depends on the precise evaluation of the external and internal factors influencing a situation (Krajewski et al. 28). With the break-even analysis formula it is possible to navigate through the company’s processes in order to evaluate their effectiveness (Krajewski et al. 29). Variable and fixed costs are reliable enough in showing a realistic picture of total costs spent on the development of products and services produced by the company. Thus, it is possible to establish personal effectiveness by assuming the possibility of avoiding mistakes in the operational management.
Finally, a decision-tree is personal-oriented method of choosing appropriate decision in any situation. Unfortunately, a busy routine activity may be challenging enough to make a weighted and meaningful decision at once. However, a decision-tree should become an outlining daily routine helping to take appropriate decisions without delay. A common decision-tree consists of the alternatives and outcomes of the alternatives that help predict the most beneficial influence of every decision. A detailed tree may also include a brief reflection of costs associated with every alternative, which will support or oppose the selection of particular decisions. In my personal development, it became easier to find solutions to routine problems by asking myself what should be done, when it should be done, who could help to implement the task, and what method would be more efficient and important. These questions became mandatory in the decision-making process, which contributed to the immediate selection of right solution. Brainstorming stirs personal imagination and shows how to use creativity for the search of the most appropriate solutions in difficult situations (Byron 207). Many solutions become templates for further transformation according to the situation. For example, writing an essay or working on a project with a team of other students became easier thanks to active collective brainstorming. In the future, it is possible to improve personal productivity by applying benchmarking and implementation of solutions.
In common situations, benchmarking is a useful tool in the accommodation of the company’s performance according to the external environment. Benchmarking is one of the most useful tools of analyzing the competitor’s performance with the goal of enhancing the quality of the manufactured products and services (Sanchez and Blanco 987). However, benchmarking could also help to develop personal attributes and qualities. For example, in my personal opinion, it is necessary to follow the examples of outstanding leaders with their character traits, leadership positions, and management principles guiding them towards success. Personal development is as important as benchmarking of the processes of competing companies. Implementation, in its turn, also refers to personal accommodation to the new character traits and aspirations. Quality is another term, referring to both personal transformation and company’s improvement. A job position of operational manager requires precise evaluation of every process in order to take care of customer satisfaction and employees’ job satisfaction level. As long as total quality management (TQM) is a combination of managerial and philosophical concepts related to continuous improvement, it is possible to make a projection on personal career development (Sanchez and Blanco 988). The course has proved that the success of the company depends on the reduction of mistakes, leading to excessive costs and preventing from revenue increase. In fact, the idea of TQM lies in the prevention of drawbacks that can prevent the company from achieving strategic goals and objectives. TQM offers to use an effective planning tool, consisting of plan-do-study-act cycle. Another name of this tool is the Deming Wheel. W. Edwards Deming used this approach to teach the Japanese companies to regulate the level of quality of their products and services. It is worth considering this tool in details in order to see its effectiveness.
Planning is the core of the concept that occupies a mandatory place in the development of routine activity. It sets the process, lying in the focus of improvement that sets further changes. For example, personal fitness plan is an appropriate target of routine activity that should have improvement. Setting goals is the primary part of the planning process, helping to reach another level of quality. The second stage “do” focuses on the implementation of goals and objectives reflected in the plan. For example, regular training sessions twice a week can be appropriate for the improvement of personal physical strength. The third step “study” represents mistakes and drawbacks of the previous stage by showing the need to improve the plan. The final stage, focusing on acting, consists of the revised processes helping to continue the way to improvement. Operational management requires a thorough evaluation of the capacity opportunities regardless of the sphere of the company’s activity. It is challenging but still possible to train personal ability to analyze appropriate capacity based on routine activity. The major background for the evaluation can focus on the tasks of the learning process. If it becomes possible to regulate the implementation of tasks according to personal characteristic features, it would be easier to accommodate to the company’s needs. First, the secret of long-term capacity decision refers to the estimation of future capacity requirements (Sexton 412). For example, in the middle of the semester, it is possible to estimate the need to complete final exams and term papers by the end of the semester. It will set the tone of the educational process, which will help to create a balanced schedule of tasks completion. Secondly, it is worth evaluating the gaps in tasks completion. It should indicate the resources required to fill the gaps in order to meet the needs of the capacity. This initiative will stir personal professionalism in filling these gaps before the implementation of important projects. In addition, goals setting initiative and prioritizing are effective approaches in raising the quality of personal activity (Sanchez and Blanco 1000). The course became an inspirational tool for the expansion of personal capabilities and opportunities not only in the educational but also in the entrepreneurial sphere as well. Another step focuses on the development of alternative plans that will help to solve the issue of the existing gaps. The evaluation of both qualitative and quantitative characteristics of alternatives is a reliable step towards the enhancement of capacity measurement. The essence of the described tools can have a first implementation in the learning process by means of analyzing personal capabilities related to the completion of tasks according to their requirements. Further, it would be easier to apply the same technique in the workplace.
Scheduling is another technique related to the sustainability of performance according to personal professional development. The most optimal way of learning how to define tasks and distribute them among employees is to make personal planning flawless and balanced at the same time. Professionalism lies in the outstanding time management techniques that prevent from facing lack of time in the implementation of plans (Pederson et al. 27). Gannt progress chart is one of the most widespread tools, which can contribute to the navigation through personal plans (Krajewski et al. 388). In the learning process, it is possible to enhance a personal professional approach towards the distribution of tasks thanks to the teamwork on a project. It is necessary to obtain a leading position to have a chance to apply a Gannt chart whenever it is possible. It shows the scheduled activity time and actual progress for every process defined among team members. In such a way, it becomes easier to monitor the activity of every team member in order to take care of the successful completion of the project. Application of Theoretical Concepts
In general, it is possible to apply scheduling techniques in routine activity as well. The chart can contain various activities, including job, education, and leisure specific activities. Thanks to this tool, it is possible to regulate the achievement of plans according to the set of goals and objectives. In the workplace, it would be easier to assess the existing progress due to the quality of processes taking place in the internal environment. Effective scheduling helps to avoid the problems of overwork and excessive work-related tension. In general, Gannt chart should be the primary tool of the operational manager willing to control the implementation of every process according to the established norms and standards.
This paper has revealed the importance of using tools, techniques, and methods derived from the course of operational management. As soon as it becomes possible to accommodate personal performance according to the terms of the learning process, it would be easy to use the same approach in the workplace. The framework of the analyzed techniques remains the same regardless of personal or professional implementation. It becomes clear that TQM principles and benchmarking techniques can be beneficial for personal development thanks to the optimization and improvement of personal activity.
