Biology homework help

Assignment Description: The course project is designed to focus on experimental design. As future scientists this project orients you to the process of experimental design. It entails designing an experiment using the Vernier instrumentation (gas pressure sensor). The results of the experiment are to be presented in a lab report format. The information in the experiment report should match the experiment design presented earlier. You will share your experiments and results with the class in the last forum of the class.
Instructions: For the course project you must perform, analyze and share and the results of an experiment of your own design. You have already turned in and received feedback on your experiment design. You need to carry out your experiment as designed incorporating feedback. With the data collected you will analyze your results and draw conclusions. Your information must then be submitted as a lab report. Directions on how to write a lab report are found below and in the attached Guidlines for Scientific Papers. You will need to fill out the self grading sheet as part of this assignment. Make sure you read through the grading rubric so that you understand all the information that is required. Your assignment will be automatically submitted to TurnItIn with your submission. Make sure you follow APA reference and citation technique. Biology homework help

How to Write An Experiment Report
Experiment or lab reports are an excellent way to practice scientific writing. Scientific writing is a style of writing that places a premium on clear, concise language. You should write efficiently and without excess verbiage. This means you want to avoid using more words when fewer will do.
Researchers must pay by the page to have their work published. They want to spend as little as possible on publication, saving more money to fund the actual research. By writing as efficiently as possible they can eliminate excess verbiage and decrease the cost of publication. You will practice this style of writing in your lab reports for the course project.
Lab reports for this course project will have the following style.

  1. Use 12 point font
  2. The report should be written in the 3rd person. Do not use personal pronouns (I, us, we).

Example written incorrectly in 1st person: I applied 5mL of water to each plant daily.
Example written correctly in 3rd person: 5ml of water was applied to each plant daily.

  1. Make sure to use the correct tense. If you are talking about something that has happened in the past, use past tense. Present tense can be used when referring to scientific principle such as “Meiosis involves two divisions.”
  2. Use APA formatted references and in text citations. Direct quotations should not be used in lab reports. Any information that is not common knowledge needs to be cited. When in doubt, cite it. Failure to cite information can be plagiarism. For more information on what constitutes plagiarism go here. If you need to review APA formatting for references and citations go here and scroll down to the bottom of the page (citation examples section).
  3. The experiment/lab report should be organized into the following sections: Title, Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Literature Cited. Details about each section are found below and in the attached Guidelines to Scientific Papers resource. Biology homework help

Science can be defined as a systematic approach to acquiring knowledge. Science is based upon facts and evidence rather than beliefs or superstitions. To understand Biology and science, you must first examine how scientific knowledge is obtained.  Science is a process that involves several steps.  Read the description of the steps involved in the scientific method in the text paying close attention to the steps outlined in Section 1.3. Then pick one of the examples below and describe the steps of the scientific method you would use to test the question or find the solution to the problem. In other words, please design a virtual experiment (using the steps of the scientific method) to test the hypothesis you make about one of the questions listed below.Be sure to identify the steps (observation, hypothesis, prediction, experiment/test, controls, results, conclusions). 4. Are all potato chips equally greasy (you can crush them to get uniform samples and look at the diameter of a grease spot on brown paper)? Is greasiness different if different oils are used (e.g., peanut versus soybean)?
  5. Does eating breakfast have an effect on school performance?

  8. Can you use a household water filter to remove flavor or color from other liquids?
  9. Does the power of a microwave affect how well it makes popcorn?
  10. Can you tell/taste the difference between ground beef, chuck, and round after they have been cooked?

RUBRIC:
1. Student submitted an appropriate and substantive post to the original assignment. This includes addressing all of the original questions/issues in a grammatically correct and logical manner
2. Assignment submitted on time and on a different day than other posts
3. Assignment met word count.  You MAY use quotes from a source, but those quotes will NOT count towards your 250 word count requirement.
4. An appropriate scientific website was referenced.  MUST put quotation marks around it AND you MUST cite the source at the end of your post. It is NOT simply enough to put a source at the end. You should also include at least one reference in your post. Do NOT use Wikipedia or Yahoo! Answers as a source. Biology homework help

Understanding risk is also a vital element of network design. Risk is the chance that a threat will exploit or take advantage of a vulnerability. A threat is something that can cause harm (a hacker, a flood, etc), while a vulnerability is a weakness in a systems (poorly configured firewall, unpatched system, etc). Every time a threat can exploit a vulnerability (threat action), we have a risk. For example, there is a possibility (risk) that a disgruntled employee (threat) could delete sensitive data from the network (threat action) because of poor file system access controls (vulnerability).

Choose a company or industry to examine risk for. If you currently are working, try and use your knowledge of your current company. Determine and list at least 3 risks, threats, vulnerabilities, and threat actions for your company of choice. For each risk, determine how you would mitigate the risk. Mitigation is attempting to lessen the impact or likelihood of a risk occurring.

Each student is to choose a topic, which includes identification of a problem in a food service operation, with a detailed written solution to the problem. The student will need to think and brainstorm as a foodservice supervisor would. The student will have the opportunity to come up with its own creative way to resolve a problem. The paper should be written as a proposal to the director of a food service operation. The whole project should be of a minimum of 4 and maximum of 6 double-spaced, font size 12, typewritten pages (excluding reference’s page).Biology homework help

Selection:

– Proposal: This should be a description of the problem or project. Justify why the project is worthwhile. Identify/mention the assumptions of what parts of the project are already in place (what info do you have on hand already) and what you will do to further develop the project (will you apply principles of human resources?, leadership? Which ones? Will you make a phone call to a foodservice operation to have a better understanding on the topic and what they are doing? Etc.). This is not a term paper in which you research a subject only. It includes research on the principles or information on which the project is developed, but it also includes actions that you take to prepare the project and critical thinking to come up with a solution for the problem. You may need to apply hypothetical but realistic circumstances/principles to resolve the problem.
– Methods: Describe how the project was developed. What tools or forms were used, the data that had been collected, how many articles were included, databases used, phone calls, meetings, and any other important step that you have used to develop this project. Identify who is involved in decisions about the project development.
– Review of Literature: Identify expert or professional information that will support your decision to work on this project. It may serve as resource material on how to proceed with the project or it may provide documentation for decisions you make as to standards, format, or other criteria for the project. It may describe how other organizations have approached the problem. This section will summarize your findings from your literature search that helped you to know how to proceed. (Minimum of 5 references)
– Solving the Problem, Results, and Conclusions: State what has been done to resolve the problem. An appendix may be attached with the actual forms or tables of data collected. If any further work is required, identify it in this section. Include what have you learned from this project and how beneficial it has been for your professional development.
